I signed up to the gym as a student for an 8 month period, knowing that i wouldn't be there in the summer. After my 8 month contract I was surprised to see i was still being billed. I was told over the phone that the contracts are immediately rolled into memberships and they "don't have any obligation to let you know" and to cancel you need to go in to the gym. I went in to cancel feeling bummed that i had paid for time i hadn't used at all but accepting it and then they informed me I would have to continue paying for another 30 days since the policy in their contract is they need a month's notice and it didn't matter that i wouldn't be using it, or hadn't used it for the past month - i still had to pay. It is shocking that i have to treat a cancellation at the gym like moving out of my apartment, it isn't like they need to clean out an apartment and replace me!! When I first went there it felt like the gym was really concerned with ensuring customers had a positive experience, but I guess they are just out to make money by ensuring customers pay an extra month after they want to quit. And to say that customers should buy and bring their own floormats because the gym wasn't going to replace any worn down ones is another example of the attitude there. Being from Toronto I was really expecting better customer service at a small town gym but i shouldn't have!!
